DANI + MATT. MINNESOTA FILM WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER.

We just returned from an incredible month-long holiday in the states.  While we were in Minnesota visiting my wife's family, I had a chance to shoot a mini-session with Dani and Matt the day before we came home.  They were a bit nervous starting out, so I suggested they pound a beer together, and they didn't think twice.  We had fun wandering the backwoods of Perham, Minnesota -- it's a world away from the busy world of Seoul, but something about the relaxed pace of life makes me think that we might end up there someday soon.

JOHN + HANNAH. KOREA PRE-WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER.

John and Hannah have been teaching art at an international school in Hong Kong for the past five years.  They flew into Seoul for their spring break and some pre-wedding photos at Chang Gyeong Palace.  We had a fun and relaxed time exploring one of Seoul's lesser known palaces.  We nearly had the whole grounds to ourselves as we took photographs, save for the occasional compliment from a passerby.

I shot all these on a digital camera -- I'm waiting on film scans from a few rolls of Portra 160 I put through my Leica M6.  I'll be sure to share those soon.

CHRISTINA + CESAR // KOREA PRE-WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

I love international couples.  Christina is of Korean descent but was raised in London, Hong Kong and Singapore.  Cesar's parents are from the Dominican Republic, but he grew up in New York City.  They met while they were students at Columbia University and currently reside in Singapore.  They swung through Seoul to have an engagement lunch with her extended Korean family at the famous Sam Cheong Gak restaurant, and arranged for me to take some photos of them beforehand.

I was happy to hear of Christina's appreciation of film, having taken a few darkroom classes as a student.  I put a Contax 645 through its paces along with my workhorse Canon 1V.  All shot on Kodak Portra 400; the B&W photos were converted in post.

MARY SOO + ROSS // FLASH MOB WEDDING PROPOSAL

He and Mary Soo are good friends who modeled for my workshop with Fer Juaristi a few months ago here in Seoul.  When Ross mentioned that he was planning to propose to Mary Soo after a flash mob dance, I knew it would be a really special moment to document for them.  The first few frames are from the final rehearsal, moments before Mary Soo walked through the park in Hongdae with Kim, our sneaky spy.  Ross started the music and began his dance; Mary Soo turned around and didn't realize it was him, and she began dancing along.  Moments later, she recognized his brown dress shoes as friends poured into the park taking their places.  It went off without a hitch, and a film crew from a local comedy troupe interviewed them after she said yes.

JENNIE + KWANG // SEOUL PRE-WEDDING // GYEONGBOK PALACE

Jennie and Kwang met each other while studying for their respective MBAs at graduate school in Oregon. Jennie's custom-made hanbok (traditional Korean dress) matched her eyes and her bubbly character wonderfully. They are planning a traditional Korea wedding in the south, near Busan, as well as an intimate ceremony at a farmhouse in Vermont next summer.
